Privacy Policy
At Parasail Pro, your privacy is important to us. This policy explains what we collect, why, who sees it, and what you can ask us to do about it — across our mobile app, this website, and the VesselX vessel and engine telemetry hardware.
What changed in this version
The previous policy described location data as being collected only while the app was open. That is still true of phone-based tracking, but it no longer describes the whole product. VesselX devices are fitted to a vessel and report position and engine data over their own cellular connection whether or not anyone has the app open, and that history is retained so that route playback, trip distances and engine records work. Sections 4 and 5 set out exactly what that means.
01Who we are
Parasail Pro is a product of Fathom1K Inc. We provide software and hardware to marine and watersports operators. Throughout this policy, "we" and "us" mean Fathom1K Inc.
Parasail Pro is a business product. Accounts belong to companies, not to individuals. Your employer creates the company account and adds you to it, and your employer is the party that decides what is recorded about your work and who inside the company can see it. We process that information on their behalf.
02Information we collect
Account and user information
- Name
- Email address
- Company name
- Role — for example captain, crew, manager or owner — and the permissions attached to it
Operational records you enter
The daily logs, vessel inspections, weather acknowledgements and other forms your company configures. These are attributed to the user who submitted them and timestamped.
App and device data
- Device type and operating system
- IP address
- App usage logs
- Crash reports
This website is a single static page. It sets no advertising or tracking cookies and does not profile visitors.
03How we use it
- To create and manage user accounts
- To make the product work — logs, inspections, roles, live map, telemetry and reporting
- To provide customer support
- To improve the product and fix faults
- To send you important service or account messages
We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not build advertising profiles.
04Location data
A vessel's position can reach us two ways, and they behave differently. This distinction matters, so we set it out plainly.
| Phone tracking | VesselX device | |
|---|---|---|
| When it collects | Only while the app is open. Stops when the app is closed or terminated. | Whenever the device has power and cellular coverage, independent of the app. |
| What it reports | Position, speed and heading. | Position, speed, heading, altitude, satellite count, signal strength and battery. |
| Retention | Retained as trip history where your company has route playback enabled. | Retained as trip history, so playback, distances and rankings work. |
What this means in practice
A VesselX device is fitted to a vessel, and it reports that vessel's position continuously while powered. Because a captain is assigned to a vessel for a shift, the vessel's track is in practice a record of where that captain went while working. We think it is more honest to say so than to describe this as purely vessel data.
Location history is stored on our servers so that route playback, trip distances, average and maximum speeds, and engine-hour records function. It is never sold, and it is not shared with advertisers or data brokers.
05Vessel and engine telemetry
Where a VesselX device is fitted, it reads data the engine's control unit already broadcasts on the vessel's diagnostic bus and relays it to us over a cellular connection. This typically includes engine speed, exhaust and coolant temperature, oil pressure, boost pressure, fuel rate, engine hours and active fault codes.
This is equipment data about a vessel your employer owns or operates. It is retained so that operators can monitor engine health, investigate faults and keep maintenance records. It is made available to the operating company and, where a vessel is leased or managed, to the party responsible for that vessel under your company's own arrangements.
06Who your information is shared with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it in these situations only.
Inside your company
Authorised users at your company — typically owners, managers and administrators — can see the logs, inspections, vessel tracks and telemetry associated with your work. What each role can see is configured by your company, not by us.
Distance leaderboards
Parasail Pro ranks captains by distance travelled and average speed. Company leaderboards are visible to your own company. There is also an industry leaderboard which ranks captains across operators that have not opted out; where it is shown, it displays a captain's name alongside their company name and distance figures. If your company does not want to appear, contact us and we will opt you out.
Service providers
We use a small number of established providers to run the product. They are contractually obliged to safeguard your information and may not use it for anything other than providing services to us. They currently include:
- Amazon Web Services — hosting, storage and transactional email
- Google Firebase — real-time delivery of live map positions
- Mapbox — map tiles used to draw maps and tracks
- Hologram — cellular connectivity for VesselX devices
- Microsoft 365 — our own business email
- Apple and Google — app distribution and crash reporting
Legal requirements
Where required by law, regulation or legal process — for example a court order, a government request, or a maritime-safety or accident investigation.
07Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active, or as long as needed to provide the service. Operational records — logs, inspections, vessel tracks and engine history — are retained for your company's own compliance and record-keeping purposes, and may be kept after an individual user leaves that company, because they form part of the company's operating record rather than a personal profile.
You may request deletion at any time. See section 9.
08Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit and at rest and access controls that restrict data to the company it belongs to. No system is completely secure, and we do not claim otherwise.
09Your rights and choices
- View or update your personal information
- Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Ask your company to be opted out of the industry leaderboard
- Ask us any question about how your information is handled
To exercise any of these, email support@parasailpro.com.
Because accounts are owned by companies, some requests have to be actioned by your employer — for example, deleting a log your company is required to retain. Where we cannot action a request ourselves, we will tell you who can.
10Children's privacy
Parasail Pro is designed for business use and is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If you believe a minor has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
11Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always posted here with its effective date. Where a change materially affects what we collect or who sees it, we will say so at the top of the page, as we have done for this version.
